Based on philosophical and ontological ideas pertaining to the notions of ‘concept’ and ‘identity’, the research described here attempts to improve modelling languages by seeking a more valid and integrative multi-level framework based not only on philosophical insights but also on language use and speech act theory and on mathematical set theory. One important focus is that of role modelling, which is discussed in the light of the proposed integration.
